The wire harness is playing an increasingly significant role in the integration of electronic systems within automotive, aerospace and industrial applications in today’s electronics industry marketplace. Globally, more original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are looking to wire harness manufacturers as partners in outsourcing to add capacity, reduce delivery time, control cost, or to meet local manufacturing content requirements in some parts of the world. Communication between the OEM and their wire harness manufacturing partner is critical to their success. IPC has partnered with the Wiring Harness Manufacturers Association (WHMA) to create a standard, IPC/WHMA-A-620, to aid in this communication. IPC/WHMA-A-620, Requirements and Acceptance for Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies is seeing increased use by industry as companies want to use an industry standard to control quality and maintain strong communication between user and supplier. In addition, IPC has developed an employee training and certification program as well as a validation services program to help the industry to achieve successful implementations of IPC/WHMA-A-620.
Wire harness manufacturers are on the front line of technical challenges. IPC and WHMA are organizing our first European wire harness conference to identify some of these challenges, explain IPC/WHMA-A-620 in more depth and how it can help your business. Case studies on the successful implementation of IPC/WHMA-A-620 and its positive impact on business will be shared during this conference. Abstracts for technical presentations are being requested from industry on the following topics.
